“Where Horse, Heart, and Hawaiʻi Connect.”

Time to Slow Down, Connect to the Heart of the Horse, the Spirit of Hawaiʻi Nei

Truly special: a boutique Hawaiian horse experience that brings together Native Hawaiian cultural storytelling, the quiet presence of horses, the beauty of the ocean and mountains, and photography that allows visitors to take home a lasting memory of Hawaiʻi.

The mission

To share the beauty of horses and the spirit of Hawaiʻi through respectful cultural education, gentle equine interaction, personalized photography, and a welcoming experience guided by a Native Hawaiian woman with a lifelong commitment to her herd and horsemanship.

The founder and business manager’s story

A Woman, Her Horses, and a Lifetime of Learning

At 19 years old, the founder and business manager of ‘Ike Leo Hawaiʻi began developing her relationship with horses. Now 36, she brings 17 years of hands-on experience, horsemanship, teaching, and care for her own herd.

Over the years, she has built a successful horseback riding business, teaching people how to ride and introducing them to the sport of polo. Her work has required patience, confidence, leadership, and a deep understanding of horse behavior and human safety.

Today, she is entering a new chapter.

Instead of centering every experience on instruction, speed, or performance, she wants to create a slower and more personal way for people to spend time with horses.

Her vision is to welcome visitors into the quieter side of horsemanship: the gentle brushing of a horse’s coat, the sound of breathing, the opportunity to learn an animal’s personality, the responsibility of caretaking, and the special moments that unfold when a person gives a horse their full attention.

As a Native Hawaiian woman and horse owner, she brings her personal history, lived experience, and relationship with the land into the business. Her story is not simply about teaching people to ride. It is about sharing what years with horses have taught her about patience, presence, responsibility, and connection.

‘Ike Leo Hawaiʻi gives her an opportunity to evolve an established equestrian business into a distinctive cultural and lifestyle experience—one that honors her experience while creating a gentler, more personal way to welcome guests.

A moment to slow down. A connection to feel. A memory to keep.

At ‘Ike Lio Hawaiʻi, the gentle presence of a horse invites us to pause, listen, and be present. Through quiet moments of grooming, care, and connection, guests are welcomed to experience the beauty of the human-horse bond against the ocean and mountains of Hawaiʻi.

Every encounter is guided by respect for the horses, care for the land, and the spirit of aloha.

Manaʻo — Knowledge Through Thoughtfulness

Manaʻo is not just knowledge—it's the wisdom that comes from paying attention, asking questions, and being fully present. As our host guides you through horse care and interaction, you'll develop manaʻo about horsemanship, animal behavior, and your own capabilities. This knowledge becomes something you carry home.

Malama — Caring For & Protecting

Malama means to care for, protect, and support. When you brush a horse, you're practicing malama—providing care that makes the animal feel seen and valued. This same energy extends to how we care for our land, our community, and ourselves.

Kuleana — Responsibility & Commitment

Kuleana means you have a responsibility. By being present in this experience, following safety guidelines, and treating our horses with respect, you're honoring your kuleana. You'll leave with a deeper sense of personal responsibility in all your relationships—with animals, people, and the earth.

ʻAlaha — Aloha (Love, Compassion & Reciprocity)

ʻAlaha is aloha—love in the deepest sense. It's not sentimental; it's the commitment to show up fully, care deeply, and honor the wellbeing of others. As you experience this with our horses and each other, ʻAlaha becomes something you feel, not just understand.
