Learn to ride a polo pony! While prior riding experience is helpful, it’s absolutely not required. We welcome students ages 5 and up, and all minors must have a parent or guardian present to sign the release waiver. Helmets are required for riders under 18 and are provided. We recommend wearing covered shoes and jeans for comfort and safety.

A beginner polo lesson is a one-hour introduction to the fundamentals of the sport. You’ll start by learning how to properly hold the mallet, adjust your reins, and sit in the balanced polo seat. Your instructor will ride alongside you, guiding you through basic control of the polo pony at the walk and trot, teaching you how to position your body, and helping you understand the rhythm and feel of the horse.

Once you’re comfortable, you’ll practice your first swing motions—both stationary and while moving—so you can safely learn how to strike the ball with accuracy. Throughout the lesson, you’ll build confidence, improve your horsemanship, and get a fun, supportive introduction to the sport of polo.

Wednesday Afterschool Drop Off Camp -

This two-hour session gives parents time to run errands while kids focus on hands-on horsemanship. Riders learn essential grooming skills, how to prepare a horse before riding, and proper post-ride care. Riding time is limited, as the emphasis is on building strong horsemanship foundations. These are small, private camps, and snacks or personal drinks are welcome.

Private Lessons

$150 - 1 hour

Our private lessons give you a full hour of dedicated, one-on-one instruction. Your instructor rides next to you, offering hands-on guidance that helps you advance faster and feel comfortable every step of the way.

Looking for an “advanced ride” that offers more than a typical trail experience? At Hawai‘i Polo Academy, we invite you to explore the beauty of Dillingham Ranch while riding side-by-side with an instructor. We’ll guide you in using your horse safely and confidently, with opportunities to trot or canter if your instructor feels you’re ready.

Perfect for experienced riders—or those who want to ride at a more advanced level—this experience gives you a true taste of real horseback riding, not a nose-to-tail trail ride.

Private Group Lessons

$400 for 3 people
